Zinwell ZMT 640 PVR

Hi

Has anyone else out there come across this problem. When I set up a recording for a programme say on TV1 on the PVR, If I am watching TV3 when the PVR starts recording it automatically changes to the channel it's recording which is very annoying as I miss the end of the programme on TV3

That seems to be a standard "feature".

The list of quirks seems to be:

1. Changing the primary decoder's channel when a scheduled recording comes up, and turning the machine out of standby if it's not on. Ideally the unit should use the second decoder unless absolutely necessary (ie unless two recordings are at the same time).

2. Dumping the viewer back to live viewing if a recording finishes while the viewer is watching the recording.

3. Muting the sound or playing 2channel instead of surround if the viewer has been watching a channel with a different audio codec before watching a recording.

4. Only maintaining series recordings for two episodes ... necessitating frequent re-scheduling of series recordings.

I'm looking forward to the promised firmware update ... hopefully it nixes these.

Here is response I got from Next:

You can have your Zinwell ZMT-640PVR updated to the latest software version by bringing it in to me at the address below or taking it to any branch of Next by prior arrangement.

We can normally do updates while you wait. Your record list will be erased during the update but not recordings already on your hard drive.

Sorry our confidentiality agreement with Zinwell doesn't allow us to distribute their software by any other means.

The current software version is 1.2.0 and to check the version you currently have:

(Using the Zinwell remote control)

Press Menu

Use the down arrow until you get to "System"

Use the right arrow to select the System sub menu on the right

Use the down arrow to get to "Information" and press Enter

Look for the line which includes "S/W version" - examples are 1.0.0, or 1.0.4, or 1.2.0

This is probably the worst advert anybody could make for a 'high tech' piece of gear that is EASILY upgradable by flash programming.

I have a colleague who is just as annoyed by this substandard operation. You can bet we are telling all our mates about the 'great'(not) features the device has.

Unfortunately my Draco got whacked by lightning. So I thought I was upgrading. What a mistake.

all the update did was change the date the software was released, unit still changes channels to one you a recording

if this unit can register two channels in the same time ?
