He needs to plug the sky decoder in with either Composite or Component depending on what decoder he has. He will also get better picture quality out of the sky this way.
Then plug the UHF antenna into the Antenna Input on the TV, tune and he should get Freeview HD, then to use sky he will need to select whatever input he has it connected to eg. AV 1 for Composite, or HD/DVD ( I think they call it on Sony) for component.

If they have a good outlook to the KauKau direction and the DTT channels
are not being used there for analogue then the chances are good .
They are closer than what I am from the Manawatu TX site and I get near full quality even with multiple obstructions

I believe we should get dtt freeview here in Blenheim as we get a very good signal on Prime, in places without an amplifier. Thanks for all your replies, a great help.I'm only going by what he has described to me,so anything could happen when I get there tomorrow.I will post the results when I have finished.

You do need to remember the DTT antenna at Mt KauKau is not as high as the analogue service antenna right on the tower top . Its also on the side of the tower so may not have as much signal in Blenheim
