i have a HDT8180-FTA-S71 which is the unit as advertised on satlink. they are not crap and are extrmely good value for money.they come fully loaded just plug in and start watching, hdmi cable included. if you have a surround sound system then the optical output will change automatically from aac to ac3 when you change channels.
these units are very sensitive and there is no detectable heat from the case after extended use . the zinwell gets very hot. considering that all of these stb's sell for less than nz $150 in hong kong some one is being gready. there is no point in getting a stb with a recorder function as there isnt any machines in nz able to record mpeg4 yet. , mysky and dvbviewer, record in mpeg2

Hi,
The Vantage receiver at DTV Solutions does record MPEG-4/HD to the external USB drive. It will record two at once off the same mux.

i think you will find that the recorded file is 720p or 1080i mpeg2 and the file size will be around 4.7gb/hr see this site posted 29th july 08 http://209.85.141.104/search?q=cache:cRbrtBRCGxAJ:www.balooga.com/mpeg4.php3+mpeg4+and+mpeg2+comparisons&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=nz. and read "At the moment there are no real-time decoders available, so it is not possible to encode video using MPEG4 part 10 and then play it back in Windows Media Player (or any player, for that matter). "
some people just want simple , ie turn it on select a Chanel and start watching.
the original post didn't suggest the need for recording options . having more bells and whistles doesn't necessarily make a product better quality,

Thanks wider. You got it. Still seeking some more comment on the comparison between the 2 products. Is it better to by from DSE and had a nation wide store support that makes it easer to return if faulty.
Also I see that you say you have a "HDT8180-FTA-S71". From the add it apeared to say that the first shipment was yest to arrive?.

There is no support for the Zinwell, they have had no power supplies for their DVB-S since April

Wiredr I think you have a distorted view on how PVRs including the Vantage work, they have no internal encoder, they simply stream the desired mpeg4 encode on the inbound TS stream from freeView to disc and pass it back off disc to the decoder when replayed. So just to clarify there is no encoder onboard required, no image quality loss as its the original mpeg stream from freeview using their multi $100k encoder.

Not it isn't. It records a portion of the transport stream and has a player to playback the recorded stream. As for the original post, I have to correct you if your comments will misinform anyone about my product.

Absolutely correct. That's how it works.

yeh rite. at that rate you would need 120gb/hr for tvnz mux.

Again you mis understood, if you wish to record TV1 off DTT at the moment you need around 4.5-5Gbyte/hour, based on roughly 10-11Mb/s for video and audio, the PVR only pulls off the wanted elements from the transport stream (ie the TV1 mpeg4 video and associated audio) not the whole transport stream). Most PVrs only let you record one channel at a time not the whole mux, and if there is another channel on that same mux you wish to watch you can do that, othewise a 2nd tuner is needed to see another mux.

he has already sold at least 3 of these on trademe. his third shipment is what you are waiting for, mine is a demo unit.
i have never had a problem with warranty issues with satlink gear, all claims have been settled promptly .

Hi Ah. Do you sell any USB HDDs to plug into the PVR unit? Selling as a package would make sense.
