View Full Version : Optus B3/D2 sound, but no picture for some channels

I can get a lot of free to air TV channels on Optus B3/D2. I would really
like to get Russia Today. I can get sound for Russia Today, but no picture.
Can anyone get a picture for Russia Today on B3/D2?

I'm using a Torroidal T90 Ku band dish, the old circular type of LNB, and a Hauppuage NOVA-S-Plus PCI card in an Windows XP PC.

My satellite tuner card uses WinTV V6 software.

Settings I'm using are:

Freq = 12733
SR = 22500
Vertical Polarization

In the WinTV satellite list, this looks like this:

<transponder frequency="12733000"
symbol_rate="22500000" polarization="1" fec_inner="0"
broadcast_type="DVB-S1"></transponder>

I also get only sound for DUNA, which I think is on the same transponder.

I'm thinking the other transponders on B3/D2 must be sending a stronger signal as I get a heap of other channels perfectly.

Do you think a new LNB or an amplifier might help?

I recently fitted an EMP Centauri Diseqc switch to my 4 lnbs (Optus D1, C1, D2 and Intelsat 2) and an unexpected result occurred. I was able to pick up extra channels after rescanning Optus D2 (KTV Tamil, Sun Tv, SCTV). Strange that a Diseqc switch would amplify signals?

By the way, I have found the Torroidal T90 to be an excellent dish. I had trouble setting it up, but once I had a skew angle of 100 for my location (Kapiti), I could pick up Optus D1, C1, D2, Intelsat 2, Intelsat 8 at the same time .... no rain fade in heavy rain. The T90 is a great dish for getting multiple satellites at once.

Try deleting all channels and rescan the t.p?

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I deleted all channels on D2 and scanned only tp 12733. Sadly, same result. It is strange that I get other channels on this tp such as SunTV, that greek channel, oman tv etc. I believe SunTV and the Tamil channel are supposed to be encrypted, but for some bizzare reason I can get them with sound and picture since installing the diseqc switch.

Deepam has no sound or picture.
Duna, no picture but get sound.
Russia Today, no picture but sound.

I would have thought I'd either receive all unencrypted channels on 12733, or get none of them.

Has anybody had a similar result?
Should I get a new LNB?

Sounds odd.. actually the NIT network load is on 12706V sr22500 fec 3/4
if you load one channel you should them all.

Try manually loading the pids from Lyngsat

I did a manual scan using 12706V sr22500, got a bunch of channels, but Russia Today, Duna and Deepam did not show in the channel list.

I don't know what pids are (being a relative newbie) and can't find anywhere to input them manually in WinTV. I'm guesing pids identify a particular channel within all channels available from a specific transponder.

I'm using a Sharp Ku-LNBF,
Model BS1R2AQ112A
Lo 11.3GHz
12.25~12.75GHz
950~1450MHz

I bought this second hand and it looks quite old. It is the circular type of LNB.
Due you think a new LNB would help.

What are the most sensitive models/brands of Ku LNB?

I tried adjusting LNB skew, but still no picture for Russia Today, Duna, & Kurdsat, but getting sound

The sharp is the most reliable LNBF on the market
The outlet sould be pointing roughly at 8 o'clock
The LNBF isnt faulty if your getting most of the channels
More than likely software issue
Try deleting your software and reinstalling

Also when entering transponders again just enter 12706V sr22500 fec 3/4
with the NIT on and dont load any of the H-pol transponders

what BER are you getting on those channels?

Kiwi_Tim

what BER are you getting on those channels?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is BER?

I can see signal strength and signal quality as I do a manual scan and they look like 100% for both.

I purchased DVBViewer, so I might try installing that and see if that works better.

When all this rain stops, I'll get out there and reposition the LNB to 8 oclock; it was set at 3 oclock, which had the largest signal strength

Thanks for all the advise

BER = Bit Error Rate but I dont think you will find this on most STBs or cards

8 o'clock or 2 O'clock same thing just upside down

Though 8 o'clock would be best unless you'd like to fork out $$$ for replacing rain-damaged LNB's! lol.

welll if the LNB skew isn't right, you won't get good lock anyhow.

Are your LNB settings set correctly in WinTV? Either 10750 or 11300. I can't remember if you need to add 000 on the end for WinTV or not.

and if the local oscilator settings are wrong you wont get a lock at all

I bought a new LNB, but did not make any difference. My LNB skew is at 8'oclock now, which works well for all channels except Duna & Russia Today. Get nothing but sound for them both.

I guess it must be my Hauppuage Nova S Plus tuner.

Such a pity as Russia Today sounds like a great channel.

Is there anybody else out there who is using a Nova-S-Plus and can get Russia Today?

Have you manually edited the data for those channels as shown in Lyngsat?

What brand of LNB did you buy, not all LNBs are skewed at 8 o'clock

It's digital, so surely since you can get sound on these channels, you should also be getting video. So perhaps the LNB be is ok. Got access to a STB to test with?

I actually think Craig is right , The card is having trouble with the pids

Thanks for the advice. In WinTV I can select the frequency, SR , and polarization when I do a manuel scan.

On Lyngsat they quote the following settings for Russia Today:

12734 V (I can set this in WinTV); Tp 8U (don't know what this is); 22500 SR, FEC 3/4 (I can set this in WinTV); 212 SID, 2112 VPID, 2212 E Audio (don't know what these are or how to input in WinTV.

I emailled Globecast and they recommended 12733 and SR 22500.

As someone mentioned, it's a digital signal, so the LNB must be picking up the signal but the tuner card has some conflict with the video feed

By the way, the new LNB is some no name chinese one that I bought from Supreme Antennas (levin). It made no difference, so I put the old Sharp one back in place.

Thanks again for the advice.

Good news is all that extreme wind didn't budge my T90 dish at all

No all it needs is the correct pids no idea why its not picking them up in the stream.

You just need to check the video pid and change it to the correct one.

2112 is the video pid for Russia Today

If that doesnt fix it try some different software like progDVB ( designed in NZ by someone on this list )

Doubt very much thet it is a hardware isssue

progDVB did it!!

I have full sound and video for Russia Today
