Hi

I'm in Karori by Karori Park. I get TV1 and TV 2 well, TV3 badly and Prime not at al. Our aerial is about 8 years old. I don't know if it is UHF or not.

I would like to go to HD, and would like to know if there are any improved aerials available that can improve the above situation. I see that there are indoor powered aerials and outdoor aerials. I've asked Hills for some advice and we wil wil see how that works out.

Are there any suggestions from anyone who has installed an aerial with a similar experience to ours - poor TV3 reception - and how did they resolve it?

First of all can you see Mt KauKau transmitter tower from your roof ?
By the sound of your reception quality you may not be able to

Sounds to me like you've only got a VHF High Band aerial, as both TV 1 & 2 only use this type of aerial in your location.

You can easily tell, as the aerial is somewhat shorter than most, and in your location would be vertically mounted.

TV3 in your location is on UHF (Ch45 for memory), and is quite pussey at the best of times. Prime does not come from this site at all.

Having worked this area extensively before for analogue, there is a chance you could receive DTT from the main mast at KauKau (above Jonsonville) or maybe even Fitzherbert above Naenae. But if you are on the southern side of Karori under the Vodafone cell site, you might as well flag it and go satellite.

Forget indoor aerials in your location altogether. Only good for poking things at. lol.

Very much doubt if you will see Fitzherbert DTT over there Herb ,
its very low power
Best go for KauKau direct
I Got a good result way out towards the south coast behind a hill

Karori Park, you should have clear site or near clear site of KauKau, I dont think you would get a pip from Fitzherbert. Sounds to me like you need a UHF antenna which currently is missing. PM me if you want a survey, I have a couple of other DTT surveys in Welly next week.

There are locations around Montgomery Cres which get pretty good analogue reception via Fitz, albeit with an amp.

Karori Park should be OK via Kaukau.

Yes it sounds like a lack of a decent UHF antenna thats for sure

I would say one decent antenna on UHF for Freeview HD and Prime on Analouge
