View Full Version : Is TVNZ CH1 transmitting programming in HD currently??

Two of use here at work have gotten Draco STBs this week. Nice box. How ever both of us think that last nite TVNZ on CH1 was transmitting some British program content in HD as it looked as good as the stuff of CH3's CSI and the HD demo channel..

Anyone know??

I was under the same understanding. The olympics will be their 'launch' for HD.

You get the feeling they'd try it live before the olympics start. Nothing like discovering you have a problem during the opening ceremony :D

Thats the feeling I was gettign as well – very good PQ on new shows - but no 5.1 audio yet. Perhaps they are still testing and once all is OK will start the HD promo / logo on 8 August to coincide with the olympics

I wonder if CH2 will go HD at the same time and will CH1 remain in HD after the Olympics or revert back to SD till some time next year??

If you can see errors in actors makeup and reflections of studio floodlights in peoples eyes its a good chance its an HD release

I must say, I'm starting to see what you mean about TV1 broadcasting in HD at the moment....the news seems so much clearer.

tv one and tv2 are both transmitting 720p @ an average 7mbs whilst tv3 1088i @ 10.5mbs average . from my perspective tv one and tv 2 are still std def.

Have a very close look at the TV1 news via DTT but on a SD set via Component or SVHS .
that might give you a clue whats going on !!

The netball tonight certainly isn’t . What a crap picture. Its not even a good excuse for SD. The Olympics had better be better or we won’t be seeing much this year!

I switched to TVNZ7 during the last quarter break and they were showing bits on the news. Looked like the same feed that Sky was showing on SS1. Macrobolocked averywhere..

Ah – is that what it is. Call me old fashioned but if I watch a ball game I reckon its quite nice to be able to see the ball!
