The best chance in Nelson is for DTT reception from MT Kaukau (Wellington) or from Wharite (Palmerston North)

Those in parts of Motueka /Mapua/ Kaiteriteri are in with a good chance of direct reception from Wharite. The old Tv3 Channel 7 from Wharite use to come in pretty well.

Both Mt Kaukau and Wharite will be using channels 48 50 and 59H. Wharite will be on the Vertical polarity.

For in central Nelson, Washington Valley, and the hills along Princess drive region might pickup direct reception from Mt Kaukau. Toitoi Street area is another where direct reception from Wgtn has been been received in the days before Nelson had TV2.

The main problem in finding any reception is going to be getting clear of Channel 59 V from Mt Campbell (Prime TV) and in central Nelson, Mainland TV's station on Waimea road operating on channel 48V which will pretty much wipeout any chance of 48 H (TVNZ) from Kaukau.

For those experimenting with early signals.

Channel 50H from Kaukau looks like the only "clear channel" for those in Nelson pointing aerials towards Wgtn. This is the TVWORKS freq with Tv3 etc.

Channel 51 from Kaka Hill in the same general direction is another little issue that might cause problems.

Hi.. You seem to know quite a bit about the top of the south and reception from wellington etc. Im in Blenheim and was wondering if there was any chance that we might get reception from any of the reception towers you were referring too? I dont claim to know anything about such matters so thought i would ask someone in the know, as it stands Marlborough looks to be forgotten about completely as its not even in phase 2, so it dosnt look like we will be getting it here until late 2009 onwards.
I have an aerial on my roof and seem to get vhf reception from wellington as all the ads are from the bottom of the north island (new world etc which is quite annoying because you go to buy something that is supposedly on special to find that it only applies to the north island!) so there is hope. I dont have a UHF aerial at present so can't comment on that. Also before ZM radio station officially came to the region you could tune into the wellington station (and still can). Thanks for any reply even if it is too shoot my hopes down :)

Yes, you should get it in Blenheim just fine if you get UHF from Wellington as many over there already do.

A lot of large UHF antennas in use over there pointing to Wellington.

Also there was a confirmed report the other week of someone over there having the Kaukau digital signal. At very good signal level.

Blenheim looks possible , But Nelson looks like a serious challenge due to low
signal level and analogue use of the same frequency

Yes, bring on the Pioneers :D

just waiting to get hold of a USB tuner stick to go mobile..

Motueka should be fine though for Wharite reception..

The issue for many areas will be the use of the MAIN Centre DVB T channels
by analogue regionals and transposers on the same frequency in adjacent areas

won't the mountain range between Kaukau and Nelson also be a problem ?

Yes it will but there are parts of central Nelson that can see weak signal from Kaukau.

In the days before Nelson had Tv2. Some in the central city use to get channel 5 from Kaukau.

Remember UHF has much lower eirp than channel 5
plus the DTT Tx array doesnt favour Nelson due to its location on the tower

If you are in Blenheim, you don't need to point towards Wellington for 1,2 and 3. They all come off the Wither Hills south of Blenheim.
If I remember right

TV1 ch09
TV2 ch04
TV3 ch07

Rebroadcast of Wellington Signal

Prime comes from Wellington via UHF(V) on ch 60. Not too sure if you can pick up triangle tv in Blenheim

In Picton
TV1 ch3
TV2 ch 9

TV3 is ch53(V) UHF from Tauamarina and can be hit and miss.

thought prime wellington was ch 60H, and picton 1,2,3 =8,3,10 H
and blenheim 7,4,9 H must have a damn good ch 5 signal to adjacent ch translate.
