Some comments from Foxtel's new HD service in Ozz.
"Although the picture quality is first class, the programming is absolute crap!
I do not have the sports channels but on BBC, Discovery and National Geographic it is nothing but repeat after repeat after repeat. I’m now believing that Foxtel rushed this service to the masses without fully testing the box or creating enough content as a balwark against the Seven network Tivo.
So, we have firmware that’s not up to scratch and programming that is abysmal and $200 that appears to have gained us a really crap service.
How is it on the Sports networks?:"
"I second that! Absolute rubbish.....
If you have an amp capable of upscaling, stick with IQ - Right now IQ2 is not worth the two hundred asking dollars as well as extra subscription for channels your unlikely to watch unless you're inlaws are coming over and you want to send them home ;-)
High Points:
Picture quality is brillant! Though my amp is only detecting the signal at this stage as 720P - So I've forced IQ2 to output HDMI at 1080I (can't visually detect much difference, so assuming the programming was only 720P)
Existing SD channels, appear to be sharper and clearer! (Upscaling through amp to 1080P, very impressive)
Low points:
PCM audio is noticably lower then compressed DD via optical.
Firmware is definetely flakey (more like vapour-ware)
- Issues with pausing, rewinding etc.
- Occassional glitches
Overall, FOXTEL should of delayed the launch! it's clearly a rushed effort that really won't leave most of it's loyal existing customers any happier! For those who are already upscaling will be quite annoyed.
Perhaps FOXTEL needs to reconsider it's programming line up, resolve the firmware issues and YES!!! this should of been a free upgrade to existing Platinum customers!
Just my 2cents!"
