What is everyone doing with their old VHF Band 1/3 TV antennas?

A quick check around my yard, I found 5, mostly band 3 yagis. I guess the thing to do would be strip the nuts and bolts and any plastic parts off and cut them up to go to the recyclers.

Or I could turn the lot into a lawn sculpture :risatonaD:

Band 3 aerials can be used for DAB, mounted vertically.

Not a problem with me as the house I'm currently in only has a UHF aerial. The last people to live here used only Sky sat and the old UHF one was also an old Sky one as well.

Low Band Ch 1 trimmed to 50 to 53 Mhz Amateur or lots trimming 144 to 148 Amateur . High band not a lot of use but could be use to grow passion fruit on it :)

strip each aerial then use as plant stakes with the longer pieces supporting some very tall plants :)

Unfortunately from what I've seen most places around the country that have already been switched off, is the ugly things have been left on the roof! If everyone took the things down the views around most peoples neighbourhoods will be greatly improved without these unsightly, mostly damaged twisted bits of aluminium blotting the landscape.

Im picking most of the old Low and High band stuff will stay up untill it falls down due to rust , corrosion or storm .
When I do a UHF or Sat I offer to remove the old stuff and generally people glady accept !!

The birds dont seem to like the ufh esp on vertical the directors are too close together !! :o

often the aerials will be untouched until the roof gets replaced

in very rural areas the vhf will be left alone as its acting as an fm aerial ,not perfect but generally adequate to get some radio

Wwell actually I strike zero cases of the tv antenna being used for FM . most don't bother and use old bunny ears , a bike wheel or radom bits of wire .
The Serious FM DX people have 3 5 or 8 element dedicated FM Antennas and often on a rotator ;)
