From what i've been told Tv3 in HD on SKY will be available seperate to other packages at no additional cost.

I've asked TV3 if the HD satellite signal could be made available as a true FTA signal. They are keen but as usual it comes down to Sky paying the costs so its up to them.

Which I find kind of a strange deal as you would think they want to retain access control over their own content.

anyway I was told email SKY and TV3 if you want to support TV3 HD being FTA on the satellite.

The problem I see is the market is very small. How many people would buy a DVB-S2 Compatible STB just to see TV3 HD. At the moment TV3 is HD over DVB-T+ you get all the other channels with it.

Is there any DVB-S2 STB out in NZ at the moment? Strangely I cannot even pick up the DVB-S2 signal from my DVB-S2 (can pick up all the DVB-S channels from the same Satellite ok). Any idea why I could not be able to see them?

Well you could of said similar when Tv3 first went on Sky many years ago. FTA DTH reception wasn't a common thing and was rather expensive. But now with Freeview being there people are aware you can get the national channels FTA via satellite. DVBS2 will be common place in the next year. How many years did we ask TV3 to be FTA on Sky's service..? but they couldnt due to their contract with Sky.

Let's not have them repeat that all over again. Tv3 HD needs to be up there on D1 FTA standard DVB-S2 Mpg4 allowing anyone NOW and in Future to access it. If Sky wants Tv1 and Tv2 in HD then the same rule applys! use their own capacity and as a trade they source their own feed of Tv1/Tv2/Tv3/C4 off the Freeview mux

as for not being able to see the signal on D1 maybe you had the wrong settings? also there is a carrier on the Vertical on 12339v...but you shouldnt have that much of a skew issue..

In what way do you find it amusing?
dtt in my lounge from freeview $500 to $700 including ugly aerial on roof
hd from sky in my lounge an extra $10/week and no ugly aerial.
if you look at the viewing statistics tv one gets about 60% of the viewing audience for prime time programs and none of the content is hd. the other 40% watch tv3 or sky both of which have hd , so if tv3 are on sky hd and i dont watch tvnz content then what am i missing, $ 700 for an aerial i dont need.

And 1 in 4 people can't get DTT reception as well, with the 75% coverage.

But remember how long it took to introduce Colour then Tv2 then Tv 3 ,
you have to be realistic about DTT it isn't going to cover all of NZ
overnight !!!:D:D

have you ever thought about those little banners that float across the bottom of your tv set telling you that ie, "bones is on now and dexter follows " well these were started by tv3 and now they all do it . or squashing the credits and previewing next weeks show alongside, tv3 again, tv3 hd on sky is innovative and is about tv3 using all the toys in the box not just some of them .
tvone has been broadcasting on 55.25mhz analogue for the last 40 years . they are now broadcasting on five mediums and they are still in standard definition, dtt is about a bunch of old old fogies who cant let go of the past
hd on satellite is the way forward.

Costly for transpopnder space though. People are complaining now about the government money for 6&7. How much more for HD transponder space?

What a load of (&^*^%%$$ !! You have a short memory , Don't your remember when B1 had a big Ooops and there was no sky sat for nearly 24 hours . You only need a small problem and you could have no satellite for days or even weeks if you don't have an In Orbit Spare in the same slot !!.
Plus you can have a major OOOPs at your one and only uplink site .

So I say let DTT progress as it has in other countries !!!

That's why let Sky provide the capacity with restriction being that it must be FTA.
Same for Tv1/2

Not for everyone. You can't get a satellite feed in some apartment blocks etc.
