Most areas around the Haywards substation receive UHF analogue reception via Fitzherbert above Naenae. Other areas may receive TV3 via the Stokes Valley repeater on ch43, also vertical.
If you are getting Prime/Maori TV, rule of thumb would be you shouldn't have any issues with DTT. If you're only getting TV3 on UHF, then DTT may require further work.
Hope it helps.
Herb.

There is a new DTT only transmitter on Haywards hill.
frequencies and polarity are the same as Fitzherbert
I am north of Upper Hutt and can recieve both Kaukau and haywards
Yeah, I'm north of Upper Hutt, but down in a valley, can't pick up any good UHF signals, In the weekend between showers I put up a UHF Aerial Hills from DSE (http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/483a91510926c066273fc0a87f3b06c4/Product/View/L4714) on the roof, but so far no joy, I can pick up sound but very bad picture for primeTV analogue signal, on about 783 mhz, so I assume that it coming from Kau Kau ?
Anyone got a plan for people who live behind a hill, (can't convince the wife that it's time to buy a new house)

Are you sure you're seeing Haywards and not Fitz? The best way of knowing would be to test somewhere around Pinehaven I guess. No chance of anything working there aside of Pinehaven VHF TV and incoming signal from Haywards.
To prove that point, you only need to check out the elaborate array of CH5 receive aerials (8 at last count) on their local translator to rebroadcast a half decent TV2 signal into Pinehaven.
TV3 used a fourth generation path (Kaukau/Fitzherbert/Haywards/Pinehaven), so is a bit grainy. Much like what they ended up doing in Picton (Kaukau/Wither Hills/Tuamarina/Picton), though this may have since changed with the advent of Freeview. Picton's situation is made even more peculiar due to co-channel recieved on-route from Wither hills to Tuamarina. Wither hills tx on CH7H, the same frequency they use from Wharite (except V), apparently sometimes causes co-channel.
I didn't think Kordia was going to use non-Kordia sites for DTT? Haywards is a Vodafone owned site, co-leased to TV3 and TRN. If they are now doing so, perhaps they should flag Ngarara in favour of TV3 owned Forest Heights in Kapiti?
It's an interesting world.

Haywards is 51 53 57 Vertical
Looking for analouges for comparison from a different site is not helpful and confusing.
Try locking one of the channels in STB in the Manual Scan mode .
On the zinwell the pin is 0000 to access that mode .

I hope they don't. I have an older relative who can see Ngarara and is only 3 or 4 Ks away from it. She wants to get a large screen but I keep telling her to wait another couple of months; another couple of months; another couple of months and there will be largescreen digital TVs on the market, and wont have to buy a STB.
Currently she only gets TV1 and TV2. Some nights TV3 is just there from somewhere over at Egmont, no sign of Prime.

Forest Heights does not cover some areas east of the railway tracks very well at all . Ngarara looks directly into that area . So going to Forest Heights will gain some viwers and remove others .

The good thing about Forest Heights tho is you'd get from Levin thru Pukerua Bay in one hit. There may still be the need to use Ngarara as a very local in-fill for those east of the tracks.
The thing about Ngarara is that it's too close to sea level for it to be of much use by the general populace. For instance, I used to live in Otaihanga less than 3km from Ngarara, through vegetation, yet could only manage very ghosty pix on either VHF or UHF. TV2 being a notable exception.
In the end, both TV1 & 2 came ex Kaukau (non-line of sight), and TV3/Prime came ex FH. Pix from both these sites were markedly better.

Forest heights is quite poor inland up Otaki gorge as another hill is in way but Ngarara sneaks through . Forest heights has too much coverage on prime
and degrades the Wharite Prime signal right to levin. some clever planner put them both on Ch 62V :D:D:D:D
so yes DTT would be nice at BOTH sites !!

Looks like Haywards is currently OOS.
No TV3, and degraded Freeview since late afternoon on the 3rd of Jan.
