Optus has successfully launched its 9th satellite, Optus D2 on 6th October 2007 from French Guiana in South America. The successful launch of D2 represents the next step in our strategy to strengthen the Optus satellite fleet, and build on our leadership position in Satellite.

The Optus D2 satellite will replace the Optus B3 satellite which is nearing the end of its life, having been in operation since 1994. D2 will ensure continuity of service; and deliver an improved experience for our customers by increasing our satellite capacity, further enhancing our communications capabilities unmatched by any other telecommunications company in Australia.

D2 will also deliver significant growth opportunities in the direct-to-home TV market; while increasing our capacity to deliver high speed data services to rural and regional Australia. With D2, the in-orbit services for our customers are assured out to the year 2020.

B3 must is getting ready for retirement just like A1 A2 & D1 as it was launched in 1994. It will be replaced by D2 but it may be used together with B3 for some time at 152E just as D3 is going to be used together with C1 after it's launch next year.

Has the switch-over started?

12706V, 22500, 3/4

PressTV, CMC, Aghapy, Smtv, Aon, Al Forat

I'm sure that CMC was on an Australia-only beam before.

12706V has switched to D2 and yes its on a dual beam so the gain is 5 new FTA service for those of us here in NZ.

Not sure if 12525V and 12658V are on D2 yet or they have simply been cranked up to full power on the old B3.

12595V sr 30000 Fec 2/3 is same level as 12706V so i'm sure its via D2 as well.

More traffic to be shifted tonight overnight.

Now back to India vs Pakistan on Setanta sports :D

Well that's interesting I thought B1 was wondering off with an inclination of 10deg and heading for the grave yard area. It has beamed nothing to Australia in quite a while and Lyngsat listed nothing for ages. Now its gone from Lyngsat's list. Must try finding it again, just to see what I get.
