But will that be the "first cab off the rank" price and within about 8 weeks or so there will be a whole range of different models at a range of prices being flogged on Trademe

There is mention in Satfacts that Zinwell will have a NZ DTT receiver model 620 HD out end of Feb/early March.

At that sort of price I'd rather get a HD version of MySky

As I know, it no HD version for all Sky decoder / receiver. You can only call it SD due to component output supported.

Dick Smith are today advertising the DSE620 for $399.
That's more like it!

Yes play $99 for their new "high definition" antenna...

I couldn't find the DVBT box on their website..

Doesn't even show if you search for freeview
:confused::confused::confused:

Yes, the site had deleted all reference to the 620 yesterday but tonight it is back with full details, and new lower pricing. Happiness!

freeview set top box

Hi guys. First post. Lompoc42 here from sunny Wellington! Happened upon this site while searching for info about the Zinwell

Newbolds 100% has the Zinwell in stock. Only place in Wellington that did. Dick Smith's said they wouldn't have any actual stock until April 5.

Walked on in to Newbold's today and picked it up. They have them marked at $550 but I mentioned that DSE had them now for $400 and they matched the price. Not too bad!

Here's the crap part of the story: Got home, had a look at the aerial on the roof and made sure all was copasetic there. After spending another hour getting everything together and cables cut, had to make an emergency trip to DSE to get bits for the coax. Everything was ready! I plug in the box and hook it up via HDMI. Nothing... I turn on and off the "standby" button. Nothing. So I change to component. Nothin. Composite. Nothin. The manual says it's supposed to come up with a signal saying "no data" and then you go to menu, etc. Not a dang thing. Tried it on another TV. Nothing. Tried everything I could think of. Nothing worked. Have to head back to 100% tomorrow and get a replacement. Not leaving the store until I see it working already!

That's the second time this has happened to me, too. My first Zinwell Freeview SD box was DOA as well. Had to go back the next day, etc. What a bunch of crap!

Bond and Bond have a deal on the Zinwell - 449 at the moment, going up to their 'normal' price of 499 towards the end of April.

http://www.bondandbond.co.nz/shop.do?cID=330&pID=6429

It's a bit disappointing to see that they have made it a 'special order only'. Can't see them selling too many if you have to place an order and wait for it to arrive.

Update: Looks like the same deal at Noel Leemings:

Actually I ran into the same sort of problem when we were sent a Zinwell DTT box last year for a demo. Pushed the power button, Little red light comes on......Nothing...... Reset power, push the button, Little red light comes on.......Nothing....:confused:

Eventually I figure out that when the red light is on it's in standby!
When there are no lights, It's on! (and it takes a good few seconds to boot up, or thats the way it seemed):mad:

So I hope you didn't fall into the same dumb trap that I did. I even had a freeview tech on the phone and he didn't even twig to it.:eek:
(it may have helped if I had been given a manual, But I'm a "tech" what would I need a manual for)

When I look at just about eveything newish in my pile of gear that has become my "home theatre" it is quite standard to have a red light on when in standby. It was just the NO LIGHTS WHEN ITS ON bit that had me fooled.

Exactly the same thing happened to me with my Strong Box and I had the same mind set being a technician, I shouldnt need a manual. If I need a manual to setup anything the manufacturer has failed...lol.

Oh but it was indeed. Foolishly I took it on back to Newbolds, and asked them to test it out for me. It was only after looking at their demo box that I saw that there was no light on.

Boy did I feel embarassed... But hey, at least it's all up and running! TV3 has been broadcasting mostly high-def or nicely upscaled stuff since I turned it on, too!

Not particulary bright part ofn the Zinwell designers not to have any indication that the box is on.. I may have fallen for the same thing and I wonder haw many others will.??

B Wilkins

Indeed, the norm is for a bi-colour LED. Green for operating and Red for standby.
One possible reason for no indication is that some people find any light source distracting when used in a home theatre environment. People have complained about the annoying blue Led indicator of Blu Ray players as an example.
My choice is for bi-colour and if the unit did not have that function I would soon rectify the situation by a very simple mod.

Now some might say "We commend Zinwell for their efficient power usage"
:rolleyes::rolleyes:
