Probably just wasting my time, but I picked up a Pace TDS470N UK Sky+ box, and was wondering if there is any chance of me getting the MySky firmware on there so it would work as a MySky in NZ. I know the MySkys run a TDS460N, however who knows if they are technically the same motherboard or chipset or anything else in common. And I don't know anyone prepared to open up the MySky to find out :D

I doubt it somehow, but it has a serial port in the back, plus a number of test points on the motherboard that could be a JTag somewhree.., and the firmware comes OTA on a semi-frequent basis... so in theory it could be do-able.

Or perhaps I just picked myself up a 160GB disk and a doorstop?

I think sky nz use different smart cards for the mysky box and the card is matched to the box. So you cant take a card from another sky box and use it. I beleve the hardware is the same tho.

Hi Andrew,

Your UK Mysky box may possibly work on our system.
From past experience with UK boxes, ive found that BSkyB often leave certain parts open for the user to tune in other Services that are not part of the official Service providers Boquet.
The software version will be different, mainly for our Interactive services and PPV/Video on Demand.
Also, the box may possibly be locked to the CAID as used in the UK.
As you may know, here in NZ we use two CAID's on Sky..
0969 and 096ah, 098ah being the newer version.
I have a current Mysky box in service, which is using the 096ah CAID or version smartcard.
I found previously with an older Pace 1000 minibox, i was able to tune in and lock local services using the Tune function in the menu.
This Function was found using a special key string entered in via the remote control that then allows the user access to the manual Tune Menu.
Id say if you done a search on your model for the UK, you may find some information that could help you out.
Otherwise.. at worst, you have a good boat sinker, and spare HDD..

Cheers:

I have found some information on the services menu, however the TDS470N box I have didn't come with a remote :(... and the regular pace DS230N Remote doesn't seem to work with the Sky+ Box... <hrumph!>. Might try and get a Foxtel IQ remote from Aus and see if it works.
Not sure if I want to invest more money into this as I am pretty sure I won't have any joy loading firmware off the sat.
Bummer.
At least I have a very quiet 160GB disk :)

Hi Bartender..

Keep an eye out for your local Sky installer.
I managed to scalp a second remote for my MySky box with no problem.
I did see a while back they were also listed in the latest Jaycar Catalogue for about $29.00

If your going to Rob the HDD out of the box, and Biff the box, let me know.
Id be interested to give it a working over.

Sorry mate but Uk sky boxes are tuned to 28.5 east. They are also locked down so theres no way of changing the firmware to non sky uk firmware. The only thing you can do with them is get some free to air channels off 28.5 that are not seen on the EPG.

If you are still in the UK - Ill buy it off ya for a tena. :-)
