With the switch from analog to digital broadcasting coming up in 2009, many people are heading online to save money on the converter boxes needed to make the switch.
But after applying, you'll realize you can't find the converters anywhere.

With just over a year left of analog broadcast available on your television set, people across the country are visiting this website to apply for a discount coupon for a digital converter box.
But making the switch is more complicated than a few clicks of a mouse.

Dave Anderson of Karl's TV and Appliance in Sioux Falls says for the past six months customers have been asking about making the switch on their sets.
And he says there's a reason you can't find the converter boxes anywhere in town.

"The manufacturers aren't producing the boxes quite yet. They're not available for sale. Quite frankly that's because the transition isn't happening for more than a year yet," Anderson says.

Anderson says on February 1st of this year the online coupons will start to be sent out.
Toward the end of February he expects the boxes to be in stores and ready for purchase.
And if you're not on cable or satellite and you haven't made the switch by February 17th of next year, you won't be able to watch your TV at all.

"They're just going to stop. They will no longer bring in a picture," Anderson says.

Anderson says although they're not here yet, once the boxes are available in stores, he expects them to fly off the shelves.

"Without that box, you don't get TV," he says.

But there is plenty of time to make the switch before losing your signal. You just need to be patient.

The discount coupons will save you forty dollars on up to two converter boxes for your home.
