short answer - no.
Different codecs are being used in NZ for DVB-T than are used in Australia.

Can the N.Z. codecs be upgraded to the stb via rs232 port?
No, it needs different hardware. (H.264 decoder chipset etc)

Australia also uses the non standard 7 meg channel spacing on UHF .
NZ and Europe uses 8 Megs spacing

Anyone know if other international brands of DTT receiver (eg: Humax F1-4000T that I purchased in Aussie a few years ago) will be OK when Freeview's DTT service kicks off in earnest?
Was working OK with the original DTT tests that were coming off Waiatarua early last year.

The original tests were mpeg 2
The new service is Mpeg 4
so its most unlikely it will work

Try telling us the specs of your humax box. Do you expect us to google the specs for you?

Well it is an MPEG2 only unit. Sadly won't work here unless someone other than freeview launches a DTT service.

Like the deviousness on display there Kiwisteve :p
Oh well, the box had a good innings in Oz.......
Will start looking for compatible HD boxes once it launches later this year. I'm a bit sceptical about what the "approved" boxes might be after some of the feedback I've seen in relation to to the DVB-S boxes sold by DSE et al (Hills & Zinnys).

I'd expect to see 3-4 units out of freeview for launch.
Someone does have a Topfield unit that support H264 - http://www.dtvforum.co.nz/forum/showthread.php?t=88
