hi
I'm curious to know the transmission bandwidth of TV content via DVB-S? I assume it's pretty high, since the contents are very high quality multimedia. Anyone know the exact number? maybe 5 MB/s at least?

Now, why doesn't anyone provide CHEAP and FAST satellite internet?

The government is doing the TV for free, might as well provide some internet services while they have the satellite up there.

Hi Vinboy, each Sky or FreeView mux has around 30Mb/s of usable capacity, thus currently Sky has around 350Mb/s of total capacity and FreeView around 65Mb/s.

IPStar is the primary satellite based internet provider, plans start at around $57/month for 1Gig cap, however the installation cost of around $1500-$2000 can be a killer. IPStar has around 800Mb/s capacity over three spot beams directed at NZ.
