In the past a similar method have been used with various receivers to tune in channels that don't broadcast the pids in the data stream. A minor variation can be used to tune into other FTA channels/feeds on D1 with the official Zinwell Freeview units

Someone may like to test it?

Taken from a posting on Geekzone Forum

As most people realise now the Zinwell and DSE G7500 only tunes Freeview channels, but after some playing around, I have managed to tune in SBS 1 and 2.

Here is a brief note on how I did it, hope it is not too confusing!!

Must know new service Frequency, VPID and APID codes and PCR

Add a new Satellite – I left as the default User Satellite

Auto tune “user satellite” from 12456 to 12483

Save - Will duplicate Freeview channels in the channel list.

Edit Transponder either one of the new frequencies 12456 or 12483, 3 or 4 in the list. Set the new service frequency, S/R and pol, eg for SBS 12646, 12600, V
Save.

Quit out of the menu, scroll through the channels till you find a duplicate Freeview channel that has no signal. Eg Statos on position 9

Go back into the Menu and Edit Channel, enter the new APID VPID and PCR. And save. Eg for SBS One 81, 161, 161

You can add more services on the same frequency to other “no signal” duplicated Channels by repeating the Edit channel process, such as for SBS 2

You have to manually rename the channels yourself.

Please note I am not an expert by any means, but by this method I am happily watching SBS One on 9, and SBS Two on 11.
I will try and answer any questions, but as I say I am no expert, just a hobby!

No different to when Imparja and NITV were FTA on D1 some time back , the same way worked then :D:D

The Hills box is easier just add the new transponder details and set in the menu ( Show Non Freeview Channels )

Sucesss. Eventually...

Tuned SBS1&2 into the STB without too much hassles following the process above to foil freeviews attempted lockdown, only to find the margin above failure perilously small (~50-60 % on STB quality bar) . Waited for fine weather and rotated LNB by only a whisker to restore the quality bar to something more reasonable. In my own defense, I dont think there was much on the other polarisation on B1 when I installed the dish in the first place..

Not sure the SBS programming is going to be compelling viewing though.

I originally tweaked the LNBF, when on the old B1, for best opp polarity Null , looking on Speccy ,
then when D1 started the results were still good only need another very minor tweak !!

I personally believe it was a disgrace that the receivers are locked to Freeview anyhow.
It begs the question that will the Freeview DTT TVs pick up and display non Freeview DTT transmissions? A LOT of people will be very angry if the regionals go DTT and not thru Freeview!!! Oh, and what channels will they be able to have on the TVs???

Freeview are doing a 'Sky' just on DTT

Yes NZ DTT receivers are open . Our Amateur radio club intends to change our ch39 anlogue transmitter to DVB T in the near future

It was only the Zinwell Sat box that was locked . My Hills runs quite well
even on C Band FTA

Does that mean we'll get to see NASA TV when there is a mission one on via DTT??

No we dont rebroadcast that on Wellington ATV
I doubt if that would in fact be legal, under the terms of
amateur tv licences

Why? I thought the Auckland hams screened NASA for hours on their ATV channel?

Non comercial educational material

transmissions are supposed to be your own material with your callsign
transmitted every 15 minutes
