It's pretty much guaranteed whats going to happen now with those channels
I mean the NZ channels who have similar shows and way behind aren't going to sit there and let this happen LOL
Yes this was public knowledge but never been in any Media sources like now so will see what happens but the NZ Networks would't be happy about it and the Aus networks are violating copyright anyway for broadcasting into NZ with shows they sell to NZ channels anyway.... interesting to see what happens now that its all out

For NZ networks, imp an nit are not being openly broadcast to all, thus no rights issue could exist, SCTV is only a feed and needs only follow within the steps of IMP/NIT, NZ networks will need to have open minds...in this, there is also IPTV.. u tube..that will make content readily available to all to view an other sats, herein lies the Digital Revelation analogue switch off has been announced 2012, all must switch within this time frame to view a Digital Platform..Satellite....the intended DTT...an in time perhaps before 2012...IPTV

Probably nothing will happen to NITV. They state on their website (http://nitv.org.au/tuning-in/) that they broadcast to NZ and Papa New Guinea.

Maybe the NZ networks should get their acts together and show these shows quickly after they are shown on the US and UK networks instead of months / years after. In some cases the DVDs of the shows are available long before they are shown on TV. I download most programs I want because of this loooooong lag and no guarantee that they will ever be shown here..

Yes and they will close down every bittorrent tracker on the net, as well as the whole of usenet. In fact they will do away with the internet altogether.

Yeah but the point is that if people want to watch Heroes or BSG or Dr Who before they hit NZ TV stations, they can and will.

http://www.austech.info/satellite-tv-general/157904-illegal-access-stop-imparja-seven-central.html#post1226974
Dear -----------
ACMA is of the understanding that the Optus D1 satellite is mainly used
as a point to point link and its use is not general public knowledge.
However, there are individuals who are able to hack into and gain access
to the services on this satellite. In order to address this situation,
the satellite broadcasters are planning to stop using the D1 satellite
towards the end of January 2008 and replace its use with fibre optics.
This should mean that anyone who is illegally accessing the D1 satellite
will lose their signal and will then be required, if eligible, to apply
through the proper channels for access to the satellite services.

If you want to use a satellite for point to point operation and don't want others seeing it, why wouldn't you encrypt it?

What happens in Europe?
Ther EU talks about something called 'television without frontiers', but it's just that - talk.
The situation's a bit different here because of countries being smaller and closer together, meaning that there's always been terrestrial overspill - UK TV into Ireland, Belgium and Holland, for example. Cable operators clear the rights for those channels, which is why BBC1 and 2 have always been available on cable in those countries.
However, there is a thriving 'grey market' in Europe - BSkyB must have as many subscribers in Spain as it does in the UK and Ireland, while pubs get viewing cards from Norway and Greece to watch live English soccer for less than Sky pay-per-view.
In Canada (where most people live within reach of the US border) the Canadian channels tend to show the US programmes they've bought at exactly the same time as the US ones. On top of that, they have simultaneous substitution on cable, so if that if you choose to watch, say, the Superbowl on NBC instead of CTV, you'll see CTV continuity and advertising.
What this goes to show is the complete lack of quality programming on the Freeview service. The Freeview group should be trying as best they can to get a channel such as ABC Asia Pacific [now the Australia Network] on board their platform. This channel already broadcasts on a footprint covering New Zealand. But is un vailable to many due to the large dish needed to receive it. It would only need some rights related content
Apsattv you're absolutely spot on, but the ABC just doesn't want to know. I guess the Australian government wouldn't fund it, and they're afraid of running commercial channels like BBC World at a loss. There's plenty of ABC programming that isn't shown in NZ, especially factual stuff - I compiled the schedule below for an ABC New Zealand channel.

Officially, probably not, as I don't think there's any interest from broadcasters on either side of the Tasman. However, with broadband and a placeshiting device like Slingbox or HAVA, you might be able to get friends or rellies on the other side of the ditch to help you watch their TV - of course, broadband will have to be better in NZ.
I think TVNZ should have a reciprocal arrangement with ABC, allowing them to offer a commercial-free ABC channel in NZ on Freeview (if not a TVNZ channel in Australia). Eric Kearley at TVNZ used to be at SVT in Sweden, which has a similar arrangement with YLE in Finland, where it operates a repackaged channel available on terrestrial in Swedish-speaking areas. (Similarly, TV Finland is available as a free-to-air channel in some parts of Sweden.) The SVT channel used to be free-to-air, but since Finland switched off analogue, it's gone to pay-TV. Despite still being called SVT Europa, it's now available on the Thaicom satellite in Asia, Africa and Australia as well as Europe, see here (http://www.svt.se/svt/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=42317)

Broadband in Aust is not the best either and it became a big issue at the recent federal election. Most people can only get ADSL#1 and some not even that. Satellite is the next best thing in rural areas were the government is now chipping in for the installation cost.

Yeah, I've heard about that. That said, there are still parts of the UK where people can't get ADSL. According to this article (http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/article3097571.ece), "rural England has worse coverage for mobile telephones and broadband than parts of India and Malawi". Lucky I live in a cabled area.:p
Which will come first to NZ? - ABC TV or decent broadband? Don't hold your breath either way.
I used to be able to watch ABC Asia Pacific (as well as BBC World) on a South Korean website, but they've redesigned it (no doubt to keep unentitled viewers out) so there's no way of finding the URL.

On B1 long before anyone had heard of Freeview, ABC was there and viewable. Was this a TVNZ transponder? i cant remember now. Anyone know?
