grolschie,
Sorry to hijack the thread but keep an eye on www.ubiworldtv.com as we will be shortly launching in NZ!
So you'll have a nice selection of Greek or many of our other channels to choose from.

I suppose the market for Greek TV in NZ is like the market for Portuguese language TV in Australia - not very big. UBI has dropped TV Globo from its line-up - that's a shame, as TV from Brazil is livelier than that from Portugal.

TV Globo is still there... just under its own group now Brazilian http://www.ubiworldtv.com/package.asp?langid=11

ukpakeha,
As Lazer has started, TV Globo is still very much part of the UBI line up but now is listed under Brazilian as it's now also available a-la-carte.
I'm not sure where you got the facts re Portuguese uptake in Australia as so far it's been very good, especially with the recent release of the Portuguese package.

YES!!! Thanks. I emailed Ubi via their online form recently asking if there were any plans for NZ and no response. I hope the packages aren't as pricey as they are in Aussie though. Dang, there's no Antenna Pacific. Any plans for that one? Can we use an IRDETO2 card on existing STB/PVRs, or do we have to use Ubi's STBs?

'Doh! I couldn't see the wood for the trees. Will you add Record TV as well?

Glad to hear it - my point was that Portuguese migration to Australia is much less than Italian or Greek, just as Italian and Greek migration to NZ has been much less than Australia. Or even Maltese - now there's a potential market for a channel.
Anyway, hope to see more details from Orcsat re their channel line-up.

Antenna Pacific? Nope! At the end of the day it's up to Ant1 if they won't to be alone on each provider much like they are in Australia (Foxtel/Optus/SelecTV) and US (Dish) or be with the rest of the Greek channels thar are on UBI or DirecTV in the US.
You will have to use the UBI STB.
The pricing still hasn't been released but I'd say they would be similar to the Australian pricing as it's the same product.

Hmmm... that may well be a deal breaker for me and some others. But thanks anyways.

Yep, I think you maybr pushing the perverbial up hill on that one Liski/UBI. You may have to re-consider your options for NZ...
Maybe you could offer an IRDETO alternative as well?
Remember, UBI will be the new kid on the block here. Punters have either already bought (or about to buy) FTA/IRDETO receivers for Globecast and more recently Freeview - not to mention Sky rentals.
I don't think your line-up is that compelling for most Kiwi's to 'invest' in your current set-up. So, perhaps, an alternate IRDETO card only sub maybe the key here?
The other thing you could do to make your line-up compelling would be to add an array of general interest english specking channels... Just a thought, or two...

Well it seems that (as of yesterday?) D2 is now live and well. Nothing NZ related on Ubi's site yet though.

herbie_g,
The UBI STB is Irdeto

What herbie_g suggested, was in fact not a bad idea for an intended NZ launch of UBI alot of folks would infact already own an Irdeto STB, perhaps the offerings of a smart card sub would appeal to the many, others without that option may prefer the UBI unit.

where are the ubi chinese [takeaway food owners], indian [dairy 7/11] owners, and pakistani [fruit & veg shop owners] tv channels? a lot of them can get channels from china 6 /asia 3 but are low in the sky and 'dont want big dishes' nor does the council. if ubi could squeeze china 6 into a small dish would piss off sky no end as chinese package is extra cost add on to start up package.lots of chinese over here, dont see many turks, greeks, arabs .

All UBI channel discussion should go here.
If UBI takes off well, we can have a sub-forum.

Actually UBI will provide just a card if you push them hard enough.

Hi,
Good to know! Did deal with Oz or NZ? NZ told me no way to card only setups AND they HAVE to install their box....
No go for my clients.

This is the first I've heard of this. UBI doesn't and will not be providing Smart Card only connections.
You will need to purchase the UBI STB which at the moment is a UBI branded Humax STB - once you have it you are free to put the Smart Card in another receiver but UBI won't support it.

Liski- although you have reiterated that UBI have no intention to supply a card only service for the many kiwi's whom have already card capable units, the folks simply wish to not sub to ubi for that reason as they do-not want the ubi box, hence as mentioned nzoliver
It appears UBI will ot offer card only subs which is and for me HAS been a deal breaker!! Fool them!! if ubi at some stage were to look at this an give due-consideration to the changing times uptake of ubi service could only but improve, is that not what you are there for ! " Never Say Never":)

Same here. But price has also been a consideration though too.

Yes there are heaps of people ready for a Smartcard only service just like vision Asia offer. Its much cheaper for the punter as he has already got the gear. Vision Asia already have a smartcad only service which works well.
