I have Cable (works with TelstraClear cable if you are a valid digital subscriber and plug your smartcard into the box) and Satellite (works with Freeview only) Dreambox STB's.

Not for the faint of heart or the completely un-computer savvy. The boxes run a cut-down version of Linux and take a bit of configuration (involving Telnet / FTP / SSH) if you want to do anything outside of just using it as a STB (PVR, Streaming etc). That being said once you have them working they are awesome little boxes.

Features include:

In the rear
1x Ethernet Port
1x SCART that supports Composite and Component (switchable via OSD)
3x RCA for Composite
1x SPDIF for optical digital out.
1x 12V DC IN (could in theory be used on a Campervan)

In the front
1x Smartcard reader in the front
1x LED showing power on, IR Remote activity :)

Full On Screen Display that the wife is happy with. Plus fully manageable via the Web UI as well.

The cable boxes have a F Type connector in and a standard RF out.
The satellite boxes have F Type in and out.

These boxes are ex-china and of high quality, I firmware upgrade and configure to work out of the box in NZ every box so I know they all work. A little reconfiguration may be required depending on your LNB setup for Satellite every box however that is pretty easy.

Want to learn more about them then Google is your friend.

Selling them for $200. PM me if you want one.

I presume this is not a real DM500 but a Chinese Clone?
It has a DVB-C and a DVB-S card in it? (and 1 more free slot?)

Thanks

My Mistake.. the DM500 are fixed single decoders.. (DVB-S or DVB-C)

Do you have anything larger than a DM500 (Real ones?)

I am looking at bringing in the DM600 which is the same size as the DM500 but also takes a 2.5" disk. Just waiting until some of the audio problems are resolved in the hardware before I do that. Was also looking at the DM7025 which has dual tuners. But the cheapest I could find it was for ~500Euro, which is pretty steep per box as it only does SD and not HD.

As per the original post I have both Cable and Satellite boxes. The boxes only have a single fixed tuner in them, so if you want one you need to ask for which type you want. And the cable boxes will only work in NZ on the TCL Cable network.

As for the DM8000, I think everyone is waiting for them ;).. They have been "just around the courner" for at least the last 12 months. Dream Multimedia in Germany have had "issues" in getting a HDMI/HDCP Certified due to the fact that their boxes are so very easy to use for not-so-legal activity. Running an opensource linux STB solution has it's pros and cons. I will put 50 Cents on the fact that Dream will never release a box with a HDMI/HDCP certified interface in it...
