I was well aware that TVNZ Sport had removed their banner from the satellite transmission, although the transponder is still active, but was surprised to find today during a terrestrial install that the Sport channel (Ch20) is alive and well and broadcasting Wimbledon replays.

Surely it would not involve huge expense to route the feed to the satellite at the same time, given that tennis coverage on TVNZ is fairly sparse on the analogue platform.

Or is it just me.

Incidentally I did phone TVNZ and was informed that the DTT feed would disappear after Wimbledon and reappear for the Commonwealth Games, but not on satellite anymore.

Maybe they are making room for Prime. Yeah right.

Sports Extra was ditched to free up Bandwidth on the Satellite service. Not that the mostly static testcard had much effect.

The issue is lack of capacity on the TVNZ transponder, so no more Sports Extra on DTH.

If Prime ever appeared it would probably be on the Kordia transponder.

Interesting how TVNZ can afford capacity for 7 channels, yet Prime moans and bitches about the so called costs of providing 1!
