Why do Freeview make the whole digital TV thing so confusing? The ads on TV completely fail to inform people about what Freeview is and they don’t even mention that there are two types.

A friend recently went to Dick Smith to get Freeview and was sold a satellite Freeview box because he doesn’t have a High Def tv. The sales person told him the FreeviewHD box would not work with a regular TV and said he didn’t need a satellite dish for the regular Freeview box. Of course he soon realised that he had been completely misled when he got home and opened the box. I’m amazed at how badly informed the sales people are and if Freeview dumped their stupid squeegee and dust cloth ads for a simple informative one it sure would help. In fact they should drop the whole brand thing and just say it is digital UHF – that is all we want!

Don't blame freeview, blame DSE. I've had the same issues with other hardware suppliers who have no idea. Last week in farmers an sales guy was convinced freeview|HD came over the internet.

One retailer I visited during one of my lunch time visits said while I was looking at a big LCD that it was Freeview HD built in and you can plug your sateliite dish in directly and no decoder was required , as it had a built in satellite tuner

I replied (( where is the Satellite F connector located ))
The guy was very taken back when he couldn't find one .

I suggested he checked the product specs and he will notice it was UHF
digital terrestial tuner built in .

Yes the set was being demo from a single rca lead on the composite in connection from a dvd player !! not a good picture at all

I recently had a customer who had a UHF antenna and HD TV and wanted FreeViewHD yet was told by DSE that the UHF service was soon to be turned off so best bet was to do with satellite. Then I got called out when he had no idea about how to get his overpriced DSE supplied hills dish on the roof.

I told him to take it all back and get a DTT box, later I went into that DSE branch and asked the guys what they were smoking. They were quite positive that the UHF service was only temporary and was to be turned off in the next 3-4yrs. All the staff at this branch thought this to be true and sited DSE HQ documents that stated so, however those documents in actual fact talked about the analog service, which they had interpreted as simply UHF.

Obviously you dont need to be bright to work at DSE!

Cheers
Cyril

I'm sure Kordia and Freeview would be a bit twitchy if they new this was going on !

But its the same over and over again just a lack of product and service knowledge

I got a similar from the same shop (( dont worry about a component cable
the picture is just as good on composite video !! :D:D ))

Remember those Panasonic and Sonque 480P sets with one HDMI input and they were called HD ready..?? Wonder how many people have tried to put HD STBs and MySky HDis on these sets..
