Just got the following reply from freeview
----
TVNZ have notified Freeview that the occasional sport channel on Freeview, TVNZ Sport Extra, is now available only on the Freeview | HD platform.
The part-time channel will remain operational on the Freeview | HD service until after Wimbledon in July.

Wonder if it's demise has anything to do with bandwidth problems on TVNZ sat channels. Freeing up a bit of bandwidth??

Considering how often they actually have something on Sports Extra, removing a static card will have little effect!

That static test card plus audio was still using 1-1.5 MBit of data so it should help. We will see how things look tonight.

I have an idea, I wonder what sort of bandwidth savings they could gain from VBR if they put a 5 second time delay on each regional feed?
Would anyone care if one regional feed ended up as much as 15 seconds delayed compared to one other?
1st feed +0
2nd plus 5 seconds
3rd plus 10 seconds
4th plus 15
I will ask Tony if it would gain anything?
There's a Kordia/ Auckland University static image on one of the previous reserved channels. When does that kick into action?
