Long distance reception

I use to pickup here in Nelson a few years back direct reception from Auckland. During summer atmospheric conditions some quite amazing reception using a fairly average UHF 43 element antenna. No amp or anything complicated. I was just looking at the path in Google Earth Distance from my old house in Nelson to Waiatarua site in Auckland is 309.71 miles 498.43 K.M!
