Hi, I'm was wanting myfreeview but the installer has said the official boxes dont work in Nelson, so he has recommended I get the Kaon KSC-N660H2 instead.

I've tried to do some research on it, but cant find much in the way of pro's or con's about it so thought I'd ask the experts.

Presumably this is a clone with the same features - is there any reason why I should go the "approved" route or will this box do the job adequately. I realise the hard drive is smaller at 160gb but that shouldnt be an issue. We are in a satellite only area.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

We don't have any signal for terrestrial Freeview in Nelson.

The only option is satellite.

A MyFreeview Satellite box is supposed to be released later this year. I don't think I would wait though - past experience says that "later this year" means December at best.

Go for it. I love mine. Many cool features. Being non accrediated means you will have to tune any new channels that come along and you can't do special recording features like automatically recording a series of programs. This can be set up manually however.

Personally I'd go for one of the Topfields, a bit dearer but worth it IMHO.
Check out www.freeviewshop.co.nz , they seem to have a good range.

No idea to be honest. :D It'd just be my personal peference to get a Topfield if I wanted a sattelite PVR. They've got a good name and I've only heard/read good things about them. Can't say I've ever heard anything about the Kaon branded receivers. Like I said it's just my opinion and the person starting this thread wanted some options.
